Trainers from Unic Cranes Europe, part of GGR Group, have been training and testing UK and overseas servicemen to work on mini spider cranes.

So far, three airmen at the helicopter wing of Karup military base in Denmark have been trained to use a 6 tonne capacity Unic URW-706 crane. The trainees were taught both practical crane operation skills and health and safety legislation.

The crane will be used to remove helicopter rotor blades and gear systems, as well as lifting helicopter blade storage and shipment containers. Elsewhere in the UK, the mini spider cranes are being used for work both on military and commercial aircraft.

Graeme Riley, Unic Cranes Europe CEO, said, “We provide our customers with this industry approved training as we want to increase awareness of how important it is to follow health and safety procedures when using these compact cranes. People shouldn’t be mistaken in thinking that because these mini cranes are small and user-friendly that they could not become dangerous if used incorrectly, as with any construction plant equipment.”
