Transport company Van der Vlist helped transport a Fokker F27 display plane from Hoofdorp to Soesterberg, Netherlands.

The Fokker F27 was 23.1 metres long, 3.6 m tall and 8.3 m wide and weighed 10 tonnes. Van der Vlist collected the F27 from a hangar in Hoofdorp and loaded it onto an 8-axle semi-extendable trailer using a 4 point lifting system and one forklift. Once in the air the trailer was able to reverse underneath the aircraft.

Once lowered onto the cradle, the aircraft was transported 70 km by road to the National Military Museum in Soesterberg. The convoy consisted of the truck and the aircraft, an escort vehicle, a vehicle carrying the lifting gear, and another truck carrying parts. Due to the transport permits, the convoy could not begin the journey until after rush hour.

On arrival at the National Military Museum, the plane was unloaded of the trailer. It is now awaiting renovation by students so it can be part of the museum’s collection.
