Manitowoc launches compact rope cleaner for Grove ATs

The system automates cleaning and lubrication by feeding the wire rope through an aluminum housing equipped with inserts that are easily clamped around it.

Global crane manufacturer Manitowoc has introduced an aftermarket rope cleaner designed for its Grove brand all terrain cranes to simplify and speed up regular wire rope maintenance.

Compact enough to fit inside a briefcase, the kit includes a metal sleeve that clamps around the rope and a portable grease transfer system. The system automatically removes dirt while applying fresh lubricant, helping to extend rope life and improve lifting efficiency.

“Our innovative aftermarket solution can extend the working life of the rope by reducing friction and adding effective corrosion protection that penetrates all the way to the core,” said Patrick Stelter, Grove parts and service product and marketing manager. “The whole cleaning and greasing procedure can be carried out in as little as 90 minutes, which is not only much quicker but far less tedious than traditional methods. It frees up the technician’s time and delivers significant reductions in planned downtime, so owners will benefit from a noticeable increase in operating time too.”

The rope cleaner has been tested at Manitowoc’s Product Verification Center and is available for rope diameters between 16 millimeters and 24 millimeters, with additional sizes possible on request. By automating what was previously a manual and time-consuming process, the new solution aims to reduce maintenance costs and keep cranes working more efficiently in the field, the company said.
