Illinois-based Stevenson Crane took delivery of Manitou’s largest telehandler, the MHT 12330, in June. It is the first MHT 12330 to be manufactured and sold by the French manufacturer.

Rick Stevenson of Stevenson Crane said the company purchased the MHT 12330 because there was a need to go bigger.

“We were facing applications where our 10225s and 10230s were not big enough,” Stevenson said. “Simply stated, the market for a larger machine is creating itself.”

The MHT 12330 has an 80,000-pound lift hook capacity and 73,000-pound fork capacity. The unit is powered by a 245 hp Stage 5/Tier IV final Deutz engine and features a maximum lift height of 39 feet, 1 inch and maximum reach of 21 feet, 8 inches. The unit is equipped with a deluxe cab for operator comfort and comes standard with four video cameras mounted on the unit (both sides, front and rear.) Also standard is a road and work LED light package.

Stevenson said the unit is suited for applications in heavy industrial settings, such as steel mills, oil refineries, quarries, power distribution and rigging/heavy hauling projects.

Stevenson and Manitou collaborated to build and spec a machine that supplemented Stevenson’s current fleet lineup. Stevenson, which rents and sells a variety of crane and access equipment, is seeing an increased demand for telehandlers, the company told ALH during the exclusive handover.

“Stevenson Crane Service has a strong utilization throughout the entire telehandler range,” Stevenson noted. “In fact, the week we took delivery of the 80,000-pound capacity MHT 12330, we also took delivering of an MT 420 with a 4,400-pound capacity.”

The company expects another strong year for utilization and a possible boost from the recently passed transportation infrastructure bill, Rebuild Illinois.

“The telehandler market is strong and we see it continuing to be strong for the next 10 years,” said Don Krause, vice president of marketing communications at Stevenson Crane Services, Inc.

The MHT 12330 all-terrain high capacity telehandler has numerous compatible attachments available make to make it a truly versatile, multi-tool carrier, according to Manitou. Various attachments allow the machine to transport mining materials or handle large components such as steel bars, rails or metallic structures. The unit can also be useful when maintaining mining equipment, changing wheels, replacing cylinders or shifting conveyors.

The unit is currently manufactured in Italy and a second MHT 12330 has been produced for the market.
