The Crane Industry Council of Australia has a new chief executive officer. Alan Marshall joined CICA on 18 August 2008 as CEO, replacing Jane Walker who retired on 15 September.

Marshall has 35 years of business experience across both the corporate and small business sectors. For the last 13 years he has been in association management roles as executive officer of national industry associations in Australia. Marshall is a Fellow (FSAE) of the Australian Society of Association Executives (AuSAE).

Marshall thanked outgoing CEO Jane Walker, "On behalf of the CICA Board and John Gillespie [CICA president] and all the CICA members, CICA would like to record our special congratulations to Jane Walker for her dedicated and outstanding professional contribution to progressing CICA over the last 10 years."

Speaking at the CICA 2008 Conference in Melbourne 3-5 September, Marshall said the event was a fitting celebration of CICA's progress and, especially, of Walker's good work. "Jane will be missed by CICA and the whole industry and retires with the best wishes of all CICA members."

Marshall described the CICA 2008 Conference as "another great success," adding, "Highlights included: the crane display at Flemington Racecourse - the home of the famous Melbourne Cup; CICA's AGM; CICA's first official Industry Forum; the two days of excellent speakers led by Stuart Anderson, Peter Switzer, plus a special Manufacturers' Panel; the trade show and more. The Gala Awards Dinner was brilliant, including the announcement of Kevin Wheeler as Con Popov award winner."

Jeff Brundell, CICA CraneSafe programme master, was the conference's master of ceremonies, while John Gillespie, CICA president, as usual, played a key role in proceedings.
