1. Can provide “expert” testimony or opinion in support of a key fact or issue (most common).

2. Can assist the defense attorney in analyzing expert witnesses from the other side (advanced trial stage).

3. Can help edify the defense attorney (advanced trial stage – complex issue).

Fact: If the opinion is written, edited or coached by the defense attorney, it can lose credibility.
