We have been asked by Joseph R Crispell, executive VP, NACB Group, to correct a statement made in the July issue of ACT, Licensing changes in Nevada, on page 16. The article stated: “Certification must meet the relevant ASME B30 standard (B30.3, B30.4, or B30.5) and be accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).”

Assembly Bill AB540 states the following under Section 2 (C): “An applicant for certification as a crane operator must hold a certificate which: Is issued by an organization whose program of certification for crane operators: Is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or an equivalent accrediting body approved by the Division; or Meets other criteria established by the Division; and Certifies that the person has met the standards to be a crane operator established by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in its standards B30.3, B30.4 or B30.5 as adopted by regulation of the Division.”

ACT is happy to clarify that the assembly bill points out, as quoted above, several ways in which an organization can be recognized by the State other than through accreditation by NCCA.
