Collett completes delivery of three wind turbines to Dragon LNG facility

Collett has reported completion of a delivery involving three Enercon E-138 wind turbines to the Dragon LNG facility.

The turbines are part of a wider initiative to reduce the facility emissions. Together with the site’s solar park, the turbines will supply renewable electricity directly to the LNG terminal to lower carbon output.

The project involved delivery of 39 turbine components, plus 12 containers of ancillary parts and equipment. Each turbine comprises three blades, three tower sections, nacelle, hub and multiple generator components, all transported using specialised equipment such Collett’s Nooteboom Super Wing Carriers, tower clamp trailers and other equipment.

The blades measured 68 metres and the heaviest, the base tower section, weighed 73 tons.

All components arrived at the Port of Pembroke in Wales, where they were stored, handled and loaded for onward transport. The delivery route from port to site covered seven miles through a busy road network.

Extensive preliminary works were undertaken by Collett, including detailed route surveys and the production of swept path analysis reports to identify and address multiple pinch points along the route.

Each delivery movement was supported by a team of 11 from Collett, comprising a project manager, specialist drivers, escort vehicles and a tow truck. Two deliveries were scheduled each day, Monday to Friday, avoiding peak traffic periods while maintaining a tight and efficient project timeline.
