Four big Huisman cranes for new Jumbo ships

Two new L-Class heavy lift transport ships for Jumbo will each carry a pair of 1,200 tonne capacity heavy lift cranes built by fellow Dutch company Huisman.

Jumbo signed a contract with Dajin Heavy Industry in China for it to build the 25,000 DWT vessels. They are designed in-house by Jumbo for a wide range of applications and to be energy efficient.

The two 1,200 tonne cranes on each ship will give a combined lifting capacity of 2,400 tonnes per vessel.

Typical applications will be in offshore wind, oil and gas and marine mining.

Valuable opportunities

The new ships are designed for flexibility and efficiency with high deck strength, a large open deck area, substantial cargo capacity, a deep cargo hold and advanced lifting performance, Jumbo said.

They will meet changing market requirements for larger ships with greater lifting capacity. Delivery of the completed vessels is scheduled for 2028 and 2029.
