Global Crane Services takes delivery of fourth Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1

UK-based Global Crane Services has taken delivery of its fourth Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 crane. The 700-tonne unit will support heavy-lift operations at Global Crane Services and Global Wind Projects, both divisions of Global Port Services Scotland.

The LTM 1650-8.1 is Liebherr’s largest eight-axle crane. The model features a telescopic boom with a 54-metre basic boom length that can be extended to 80 metres.

This is complemented by a 90-metre luffing setup and Y-shaped guying system, which can take hook height to its maximum 152 metres. Work radius is 112 metres.

The configuration can flex to accommodate heavier lifts and those which require a wider working range.

Other features of the LTM 1650-8.1 include Liebherr’s latest working-at-height tech, including a WindSpeed load chart for calculating lift capacities in varying conditions.

As well as the VarioBallast system, the machine can adjust ballast radius using a hydraulic slewing mechanism. There is also the VarioBase system, which improves lifting capacities even in confined spaces.

Over 2025, Global Crane Services took delivery of seven mobile cranes, ranging from 70 to 250 tonnes, alongside a 50-tonne city crane and Liebherr’s 1,000th LTM 1090-4.2. The company now operates more than 70 cranes, all but one of which are from Liebherr.
