Hoover Dam bypass delayed

The US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has announced a two year delay in completion of the $234 million Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge. The project will now finish in late 2010 instead of June 2008.
The delay is due in part to the collapse last year in high windsof a giant cableway system used to construct the bridge. The 2,500 foot cable, which was supported by two 330 foot high towers, was used to deliver steel girders and pre-cast concrete sections during construction of the 1,960 foot long, 88 foot wide, $114 million concrete deck arch bridge contract.
