Jekko crane airlifted to work site

For something a little unusual, we present a lift story with a different angle.

Jekko, together with its customer-partner NMG Italia, has completed a high-altitude delivery of a Jekko SPX328 tracked mini crane.

There key difference here is that the crane was delivered to a site in the Dolomite mountains which is only accessible by helicopter.

The project required the mini crane to be dismantled in preparation for air transport and then flown to the site as individual modules, where it was reassembled and commissioned by a team from NMG Italia.

The operation was completed over two days, with many more required for the engineering and logistics preparation.

The crane was divided into four ‘micro blocks’, each weighing 1,000 kg and balanced to help with flight control. Each leg of the journey took about 10 minutes.

High altitude lifting

Located at 2,050 metres above sea level, the site will see a new hut constructed in the Puez-Odle Nature Park.

“Finding the optimal solution for this specific case was the cornerstone of the project,” explained Stefano Vecchiato, project manager at NMG Italia.

“We chose the SPX328 because it’s compact, versatile, agile and intuitive to use, and because it was designed for quick disassembly into lightweight components that can be transported by helicopter or light vehicles.”

The project is described as demonstrating a distinct advantage of Jekko compact lifting solutions in that the machines can be transported and installed in locations where conventional machines cannot operate.
