As the latest addition to Liebherr’s MK series of mobile folding construction cranes, the new MK 120-5.1 fills a gap near the top of the range.

It sits between the MK 88-4.1 and the largest model in the series, the MK 140-5.1, on which the new one is based. The new model on its five axle carrier offers a maximum 52 metre radius and lifts 2.1 tonnes at jib-end.

First with the new features

A new feature of this, the fourth model in the MK series. is the Liebherr TC-OS (Tower Crane Operating System). It has a user interface that can be customised to suit the operator. Its 12 inch (300 mm) touch screen, viewable as full or split, allows display of a range of information in different areas. All MK crane models are destined to have this new screen by the end of 2025.

An option that will also become standard on all MK models is a smaller hook block to help when positioning loads in confined spaces, for example, between scaffolding and a building. It can be changed on site in a few minutes, the manufacturer said.

Company Zaugg AG, in Rohrbach, Switzerland ordered the first unit of this new model. “The MK 120-5.1 is exactly the right crane for our fleet. Its jib length and lifting capacity make it ideal for our customers’ construction sites,” says Stephan Zaugg, managing director. “We are excited to be the first ever customer to acquire the new MK. Reliability, customer service and the great reputation of Liebherr’s mobile construction cranes were deciding factors for our purchase.”

The full range of models in the MK series are the three axle MK 73-3.1, the four axle MK 88-4.1, the new 5 axle MK 120-5.1, and the MK 140-5.1, also on a five axle carrier. For many years sales of this type of crane were largely confined to northern Europe, in particular, the Netherlands but have since begun finding a place all over the world. Earlier in 2024 the MK series was launched in the United States.

Deliveries of the new MK 120-5.1 are due to start around the middle of 2025.
