A new 100 tonne capacity wind turbine maintenance crane has been announced by LiftWerx.

The BoxHook is designed for larger wind turbines in the 3 to 8 MW range. It can be mounted on towers up to a height of 175 metres. In an offshore application the BoxHook is an alternative to using a crane mounted on a jack up vessel.

Specialist engineering contractor LiftWerx, based in Canada, said the new crane will drive down repair costs for onshore and offshore turbines. The BoxHook is assembled using a LiftWerx GenHook crane. It can be used in the maintenance and repair of gearboxes, generators, transformers, and other major components, LiftWerx said.

LiftWerx is part of the Meemaken group of companies owned by Roderik van Seumeren. The company specialises in complex logistics and heavy and alternative lifting in the wind energy industry.
