Link-Belt TCC-2500s power I-35 expansion in Texas
14 October 2025
Texas-based contractor Fluor has turned to a pair of Link-Belt TCC-2500 telescopic crawler cranes to power construction on the $548 million I-35 Capital Express South Project in Austin, Texas, USA. Delivered in early summer 2025 by Holt Crane & Equipment, the two 250-ton (227-tonne) units quickly proved their value, logging more than 500 engine hours each within their first two months on site.
The cranes are central to one of the project’s most demanding tasks: installing prestressed concrete beams weighing up to 148,000 pounds (67,131 kilograms) during overnight lane closures. Working from the median, the TCC-2500s lift and position the massive sections, often with pick and carry capability, up to 60 feet (18.3 metres) in the air to form elevated managed lanes. Their fine metering controls, powerful reach and high capacities enable precision work even at radii of 170 feet (51.8 metres).
Operators also credit the cranes’ advanced features, including Pulse 2.0 controls, real-time camera systems, and a 223-foot (68-metre) greaseless main boom that excels over tall bridge spans. Fluor’s lift team cited the machines’ robust undercarriage, travel performance and consistent Link-Belt design philosophy, spanning cab comfort, smooth hydraulics and heavy-duty capacities, as reasons why the TCC-2500 has become a trusted choice for complex infrastructure work.
