Lower version of K25 new from Scheuerle

Negotiating a tight turn with a wind turbine tower section Wind energy is a target market for the new Scheuerle K25 L modules which are designed to handle loads with a high centre of gravity

Specialized transport equipment manufacturer Scheuerle in Germany has developed a new version of its K25 platform trailer modules to better deal with high centre of gravity loads, for example, wind turbine components.

The K25 L, where the “L” indicates low, has a reduced load height even though it has larger diameter tyres. Its improved design gives greater stability when moving loads with a high centre of gravity. Capacity is 23 tonnes per axle or 13.9 tonnes at 80 km/h.

As wind turbines get bigger so have the dimensions and weight of the components. With this the centre of gravity of the components has also moved up, requiring greater stability from the transporter and a lower loading height.

To achieve these improvements in performance the module’s track is 2,100 mm, claimed by the manufacturer to be 10 per cent more than competing products. Overall width of the on-road modules are 3,000 mm. At 285/70 R 19.5, the tyres used are larger and more robust, Scheuerle said. Even with larger tyres, the lowered platform height is 875 mm when loaded and 910 mm unloaded.

Suspension travel is 680 mm and the maximum steering angle is +/- 60 degrees. A 30 per cent higher torsional stiffness compared to similar products is claimed by the manufacturer for the K25 L to help with safer cornering.

Modules are available with two, three, four or six axles and can be configured with goosenecks, drawbars, swivel bolsters, bridges and tower adapters.
