Magnetek introduces Impulse crane controls
12 September 2011
Magnetek, Inc. has introduced the Impulse Series 4 line of reliable and cost-effective adjustable frequency crane controls. According to Dan Beilfuss, director of sales for the company's material handling business, the Impulse•G+ Series 4 can be used as an open-loop vector or V/F crane control for traverse motions or mechanical load brake hoists. The Impulse•VG+ Series 4 can be used as a closed-loop flux vector crane control specifically designed for non-mechanical load brake hoists and high performance traverse motions.
According to Beilfuss, Impulse Series 4 drives incorporate new safety and control features including Load Check II, which continuously detects hoist overload conditions throughout the frequency range, halting upward motion and only allowing the load to be lowered. The new Adaptive Ultra-Lift feature, for which the company has a patent pending, allows for hoist operation above base speed with a light load or empty hook. It continuously monitors motor torque and adjusts motor speed to operate at peak performance, improving plant safety and maximizing throughput. Safe Torque Off is another feature that provides a redundant hardware safety circuit that guarantees motor and brake power are removed when an E-STOP switch or safety controller opens the drive input, eliminating the need for external disconnects, the company said.
"We are excited to provide our customers with the advanced technology of the IMPULSE Series 4 line of crane controls and want to remind them that every IMPULSE drive is backed by Magnetek's unsurpassed three year warranty," Beilfuss said.
