Major Projects announced for Mexico and Brazil

The following major projects were announced in Latin Trade magazine:

• Mineracao Onca Puma, a subsidiary of companhia Vale do Rio Doce, is planning a $1.44 billion nickel development in Para state.

It will require infrastructure and electricity lines. It should create 7,000 jobs.

• Freightliner, a US truck manufacturer, announced plans to build a $300 million truck plant in northern Mexico's Coahuila state. The plant will turn out 30,000 trucks annually.

• ICA Fluor, a Mexican-US construction and engineering firm, signed a $276 million contract to build two cryogenic plants for Pemex, Mexico's state owned oil company. The plants should start up within two years.
