Lifting and transport specialists Mammoet and Tiong Woon have agreed an alliance to strengthen their positions in Thailand and the surrounding region.

Singapore-based Tiong Woon and Netherlands-headquartered Mammoet will partner on turnkey project logistics and heavy lifting services. The agreement is between Mammoet Asia Holding B.V. and Tiong Woon Corporation Holding Ltd. Tiong Woon made the announcement in December and has also bought some heavy lifting and heavy transport equipment from Mammoet.

Mammoet said the new venture “capitalises on the collective strengths of both companies’ services and assets, to create a powerhouse capable of delivering comprehensive, turnkey solutions for projects across a spectrum of industry sectors.”

Tiong Woon, which already has a presence in Thailand, added that it would “significantly broaden its service offerings to existing as well as new customers, particularly within the heavy lift and haulage market in Thailand.”

A new chapter of growth

Commenting on the new alliance Ang Guan Hwa, Tiong Woon executive director and CEO, said, “We are excited about the opportunities this strategic alliance and asset acquisition with Mammoet in Thailand brings to our organisation and our customers. This is yet another chapter in the group’s growth story in the right direction.

“We will be positioned to deliver a wider suite of exceptional services to our customers. The investment also underscores our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers and partners, and our vision for the group as the market leader in high-value, large, complex heavy lift and haulage solutions in Thailand and the broader region. We believe that this broadening of our strategic partnership with Mammoet in the Asia Pacific region augurs well for further growth in the region.”

For his part Tom Rutgrink, Mammoet Asia Pacific commercial director, commented, “Tiong Woon was a natural choice for a partner for us in Thailand. Its experience and local footprint will complement Mammoet’s capabilities, expertise and the industry’s largest fleet of lifting and transport equipment. The partnership signifies our commitment to innovation and excellence in the heavy lifting and transport industry. We look forward to leveraging our collective capabilities to provide integrated project solutions and drive success for our customers in Thailand and beyond.”

Asset acquisition

To help strengthen its position in Thailand, Tiong Woon has acquired heavy lifting, transportation and heavy haulage equipment from Mammoet. “This strategic investment marks a pivotal moment in the company’s growth trajectory…” enabling the group to “...undertake new, larger, and more complex projects for existing and new customers,” Tiong Woon said.

Tiong Woon is a strong presence in its home country of Singapore and has 12 regional offices, including three in Malaysia, two each in India and Indonesia and Thailand, plus Brunei, Bangladesh, Philippines, China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Group revenue was SGD135.8 million (US$101 million) in 2023. It ranked in 19th place in ICST’s 2023 IC100 ranking of the world’s largest crane-owning companies.

Mammoet is by far the world’s largest lifting and heavy transport company and a long-time holder of the number one slot in the above-mentioned IC100. Annual revenue exceeds $1 billion.
