Mammoet completed heavy lifting operations for the conversion of the Valaris 247 jack-up drilling rig into a wellhead platform at Drydocks World Dubai, finishing ahead of schedule.
The project marked the first deployment of a Tadano Demag CC 8800-1 lattice boom crawler crane in Boom Booster configuration in the UAE. Configured with a 120 metre main boom and 96 metre luffing jib, the 1,650 tonne capacity crane provided the hook height and working radius needed to install the sections without requiring a larger crane.
Commissioned by Drydocks World, Mammoet lifted and installed nine rig leg extension sections across three legs, each comprising three triangular sections weighing approximately 105 tonnes and measuring 10.2 metres high by 16.2 metres wide. The work extended all three legs from 175 metres to 205 metres, enabling the converted platform to operate at its intended offshore location.
The converted platform will serve as surface infrastructure connecting subsea oil wells to production equipment at the Maromba field offshore Brazil.
