Mammoet, ULC-Energy partner on nuclear plant construction in the Netherlands

A new agreement aim to accelerate modular reactor projects tied to the Netherlands’ low-carbon energy goals.

Mammoet and ULC-Energy have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at supporting the construction of new nuclear power facilities in the Netherlands, aligning with the country’s broader push toward low-carbon energy.

Mammoet CEO Joost Goderie and ULC-Energy CEO Dirk Rabelink sign the agreement at Mammoet’s head office in Schiedam, the Netherlands.

The partnership will focus on improving efficiency in building next-generation nuclear plants, including the deployment of modular construction techniques. Mammoet said its experience in heavy lifting and transport, combined with off-site fabrication strategies, can help reduce construction timelines by enabling large components to be assembled elsewhere and installed on site as needed.

ULC-Energy is currently developing plans to deliver multiple small modular reactors (SMRs) in the Netherlands and Belgium. The agreement comes as the Dutch government increases its commitment to nuclear energy as part of its strategy to provide reliable and affordable clean power.

ULC-Energy CEO Dirk Rabelink said nuclear power is expected to play a key role in future low-carbon energy systems, adding that the partnership highlights opportunities for Dutch supply chain companies to contribute to new nuclear developments.
