Manitou adds a pair of handlers

24 April 2008

Waco, TX-based Manitou has added two new models to its MT series telescopic handler product line. The MT 6642 has 42 feet of lift height and a 6,600 pound rated capacity. The larger of the two, the MT 8044 will lift 7,000 pounds to the full lift height of 44 feet, and 8,000 pounds to 37 feet. Both models have a welded box-section boom, which, according to Manitou, makes them one of the strongest on the market. Increased operating capacities are achieved without the use of stabilizers or fluid-filled tires, although for added stability stabilizers are an option.

Also optional on both models is a Work Platform System (WPS) to ANSI/ASME B56.6. Rear axle stabilization is provided, which improves stability when the boom is raised more than 60 degrees, when the parking brake is applied, or when the WPS is activated.

Other features include reinforced C-channels in the frame, internal wet disc brakes for longer life and better braking, and a negative (spring-applied, hydraulically-released) parking brake. The negative parking brake applies automatically when the engine is shut off or, manually, by pressing a rocker switch.

Both models have John Deere turbocharged diesel engines. The MT 6642 is available with 99 or 115 hp and the MT 8044 comes standard with the 115 horsepower engine with automatic engine shutdown protection. Other standard features include three-speed power shift transmission, three steering modes and quick-attach mounting system.
