Metal processing plant project exclusively uses Liebherr cranes

A new metal processing plant is under construction in Hamburg, Germany. The project requires precise lifting and positioning of steel structures and heavy plant equipment.

To support the work, construction company Züblin has brought in a fleet of Liebherr cranes. These include a Liebherr 1188 EC-H, a 550 EC-H and a 470 EC-B, all from the Tower Crane Center rental fleet and sublet to Züblin by BMTI.

The fleet is supplemented by an additional Liebherr 250 EC-B from BMTI’s own inventory.

The 1188 EC-H Fibre plays a central role in heavy-duty assembly work owing to its lifting capacity. Using fibre rope technology increases the lifting capacity by 18%, enabling a maximum load of 40.0 tons and a maximum capacity at radius of 9.1 tons.

With a compact, topless design, the EC-B flat-top crane series supports easy transport and assembly, while offering the flexibility needed on a modern construction site. The design allows for several cranes to be safely operated in confined spaces.

Using only Liebherr cranes across the project has allowed the separate companies to work together more effectively, supported by standardised control and safety features.

Recycling company Aurubis will process around 30,000 tons of material per year from 2026 onwards, making a significant contribution to the circular economy.
