Moving long turbine blades with Faymonville
12 August 2021
As wind turbines for electricity generation get bigger so do the blades. Longer blades increases the challenge of transporting them. Faymonville said its new adapter, with a four axle self-steering trailer, allows rotor blades 80 to 120 metres long, or more, to be transported with maximum manoeuvrability. This agility comes from it being a self steering type trailer instead of an extendable beam type.
The company claims its 30 tonne lifting capacity as the largest on the market. It is a universal design and can be expanded mechanically for use with a dolly. To alter the height of the tip of the blade the hydraulics can be configured with a maximum cylinder stroke of 1,700 mm.
The universal design allows the different transport cradles from each blade manufacturer to be accommodated. At the front end it can be coupled quickly and easily to the tractor using four pins, the manufacturer said.
This wind turbine blade adapter from Faymonville is available for the product series FlexMax, ModulMax and CombiMax.
