The 230 ton 298 HSL crawler

Expanding the crawler line is the new 298 HSL, a 230 ton (208.6 metric tonne) hydraulic lattice boom crawler crane. The company said the 298 provides the replacement answer for all the aging 230 ton crawlers around. (See crawler crane article page 21)

The tubular main boom is from 60 to 300 feet long and an offsettable jib is available up to 90 feet long. A 270 foot main boom can be combined with the 90 foot jib for a maximum tip height of 365.5 feet.

Counterweight pin releases are designed to be in easy reach for one person to assemble and disassemble. The 160,000 pounds of upper counterweight are designed for easy handling and blended load-outs. The main unit transports at less than 88,000 pounds.

The 250 ton ATC-3250 all terrain

Added to the all terrain crane line is the new five axle 250 ton (220 metric tonne) ATC-3250. It has a 43.3 to 223.1 foot, full power, seven-section, latching telescopic boom. Sections are extended independently by a double acting, single stage cylinder and four pinned positions on each section give 38 combinations.

Jibs are a 17.7 to 43.3 foot two-piece lattice fly and up to four 19.7 foot extensions can be added. The 43.3 foot attachment with all four lattice extensions and the main boom gives a 358 foot tip height.

The 90 ton RTC-8090 rough terrain

New in the rough terrain range is the 90 ton capacity RTC-8090 Series II with new boom design. A first for a rough terrain crane, according to the manufacturer, is the locking and latching system for the 38 to 140 foot, five-section boom. It has a single cylinder and there is no deduct in the lift chart for telescoping a load. Maximum tip height is 238 feet with the additional two 16 foot lattice inserts between the boom head and the optional 35 to 58 foot bi-fold lattice.

Power from a 225 horsepower Caterpillar C6.6 is transmitted by a Spicer powershift transmission with six forward and six reverse speeds. The suspension is described as automotive style, four-link, fully independent at the rear designed to reduce bouncing and improve handling both on and off the road. Transport weight is less than 90,000 pounds.

New angle boom for 218 HSL The new angle boom for the 218 HSL crawler is designed for oil field service work, clamshell, pile driving and other applications where conditions are not ideal for a tubular boom. Available from 45 to 155 feet long, the new angle boom has 4 x 4 x 0.5 inch chords and uses the same extensions as the 308 Hylab 5.

The TCC-450 telescopic crawler

For the first time dealers and customers got their hands on the new 45 ton capacity TCC-450 telescopic crawler crane. It has a 33 to 105 foot Link-Belt four-section box boom. Line pull is 11,000 pounds (4,990 kg) and power is from a 197 hp (147 kW) Tier 3 Isuzu engine.

“As this work becomes even more specialized and general contractors look to TCCs as a lifting solution alternative, the larger dealers and national rental houses will move toward adding these units to their fleets,” said Pat Collins, lattice crane product manager. “It's conceivable we could expand to three or four different sized units.”
