Potain cranes help build Pompeii tourist hub in Italy

Italian real estate developer Gruppo Irgenre is using seven Potain tower cranes, from dealer Edilcom Gru, to help construct a tourist hub in Pompeii.

The fleet includes five Potain MCT 88 flat top city cranes as well as two Potain MDT 189 flat top cranes

The fleet includes five Potain MCT 88 flat top city cranes and two larger MDT 189 flat tops. The MCT 88s are assembled at heights between 21 and 31.5 metres, with a 52 metre boom. Capacity is 5 tonnes while at jib-end it is 1.1 tonnes.

Both the MDT 189s are 40 metres high with 60 metre booms. Capacity is 8 tonnes and 1.8 tonnes at the tip.

All seven cranes have the Manitowoc Crane Control System (CCS) and the anti-collision software, Top-Tracing III.

Initially, the cranes will be used to transport construction materials around the site, before beginning work on the buildings.

The 200,000 square metre Maximall Pompeii complex, close to the Pompeii archeological site, will include 200 shops, 25 restaurants, a four-star hotel, cinema, theatre, conference facilities, 6,000 square metre outdoor amphitheatre with dancing fountains and 15,000 square metres of public gardens.

Corrado Negri, Gruppo Irgenre CEO, said, “Potain tower cranes are famous for their reliability, load capacity and low maintenance, which are the reasons why, together with the reliability of our supplier Edilcom Gru, we chose this brand.”

Edilcom Gru, headquarted in Naples, Italy, has been a Manitowoc dealer since the late 1990s and has a fleet of 60 cranes.
