Sarens deploys CC 6800 in Vietnamese thermal plant
25 August 2025

Sarens is providing heavy lifting services for the construction of the Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant in Quang Binh Province, Vietnam. The project, which began in August 2023, is scheduled for completion in August 2025. Once operational, the coal-fired plant is expected to generate about 8.4 billion kilowatt-hours annually for the national grid.
Sarens was contracted by Lilama 18 to handle key lifting operations on site. To meet project requirements the company mobilised a range of equipment, including a Demag CC 6800 crawler crane with 1,250 tonne capacity, a CC 1500 with 300 tonne capacity, and two 60 tonne GR600EX rough terrain cranes. The cranes were shipped in from Malaysia and Phu My and assembled on site within two weeks, despite interruptions from seasonal storms.
The work has involved lifting components weighing up to 190 tonnes to heights of 80 meters. Limited space on site and adverse weather conditions added to the complexity. According to Sarens, careful planning and coordination among engineers and operators were critical to completing the lifts safely and on schedule.
Construction of Quang Trach 1 is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to expand power generation capacity in response to growing demand.
