Scott Powerline buys 'greenr' boom truck

24 April 2008

Scott Powerline and Utility Equipment has taken delivery of the world's first environmentally friendly boom truck, the new National ENVI (690EU) model. The ENVI is the only boomtruck in the industry that runs on biodegradable diesel and uses vegetable-based oil in its hydraulic system.

A benefit for companies working in environmentally sensitive locations, the boomtruck works just as efficiently as other boom trucks, according to Dillard Winn, fleet manager at Scott Powerline. “The ENVI's versatility is of enormous benefit to utility companies, as is the quality and peace of mind that comes with any National boomtruck,” he said. “It operates as efficiently as any of our other boom trucks in everyday applications, but has the added advantage in that it is equipped to enter sensitive locations at any time - where a standardboom truck running on ordinary hydraulic oil may be denied access.”

The newest ENVI is working for contractor MasTec, helping install 5 ton concrete powerline poles along 15.6 miles of road in the city of Terrell, near Dallas, TX.

The ENVI is based on the popular 690E and incorporates the same specifications - it has a maximum capacity of 20 tons, a 90 foot four-section boom, 45 foot two-section jib, and a maximum tip height of 144 feet. It also has the same additional features, including adjustable swing speed, internal anti-two-block, high performance planetary winch, and self-lubricating Easy Glidewear pads.
