Shinwoo Development is using seven Liebherr tower cranes, including a new 1250 HC 40, to build a plant for Samsung Electronics in Asan, South Korea.

The large saddle jib crane was purchased by contractor Shinwoo from Gintex Korea Co Ltd, Liebherr distributor in South Korea.

The crane will remain on the Samsung site for five months, before being shipped to Abu Dhabi, UAE for use at a nuclear power plant. It is working alongside six Liebherr 800 HC 20 and 315 HC-L tower cranes.

Hyeon-joon Kang, the Gintex engineer who commissioned the crane, said, "Shinwoo is using the crane on two different buildings at the Samsung plant. The contractor is on a very tight schedule and working through the night to complete on time."

The 1250 HC 40 is working at a height of 60 metres, with a 50 m under hook height. While maximum boom length is 80 m, it is working at 64 m at the Samsung site, due to its proximity to another building in the plant.

Shinwoo has ordered a second 1250 HC 40, which is being delivered directly to Abu Dhabi for the power plant work. The model has a maximum free standing height of 92.2 m, and 40 tonnes capacity. When installed at Abu Dhabi, both 1250 HC 40s will be configured to work at full capacity.
