Sims Crane strengthens leadership team with three executive promotions

Sims Crane & Equipment has promoted three senior leaders into executive positions, strengthening its leadership team as the company continues to focus on safety, operational performance and long-term growth.

Derek Sather has been named chief risk officer, Curtis Taylor chief business operations officer and Mike Kuffermann chief sales officer. The company said the appointments support its broader efforts to enhance organizational alignment and position the business for future expansion.

Sather will oversee enterprise risk management, compliance and insurance strategy, as well as contractual oversight and internal training programs. With more than three decades of experience across crane, rigging and specialized transportation, he brings deep industry knowledge and a strong background in safety standards and regulatory engagement.

In his new role, Taylor will lead enterprise analytics and reporting, with a focus on data-driven improvements across operations, billing and customer engagement. His experience in ERP systems, including IFS platforms, is expected to support more integrated business processes and performance tracking.

Kuffermann will guide the company’s sales strategy and growth initiatives. A second-generation employee with more than 17 years at Sims, he began his career as an apprentice and has held multiple roles across the organization, reflecting the company’s emphasis on internal development and long-term career progression.
