UK-based Baldwins Crane Hire has taken delivery of three new Grove GMK5120L all terrain cranes, two GMK5150XL units and a GMK5250XL-1.

GMK5120L

The GMK5120L cranes are the first of their kind in the country, Grove said. The 120 tonne capacity GMK5120L offers long reach with a 66 metre main boom and has taxi crane capabilities. The crane can carry up to 30.7 tonnes of counterweight for configurations of 16.5 tonnes per axle, or up to 14.6 tonnes counterweight for a 12 tonne per axle configuration. There are also options of 3.1 tonnes of counterweight in a 10 tonne per axle configuration.

These capabilities allow customers to benefit from greater flexibility and lower transportation costs, Grove said. The crane is compact and is 14.2 metres long and 2.75 metres wide.

GMK5150XL

The GMK5150XL features a 7 section, 68.7 metre main boom and offers a host of lifting capabilities for tower crane assembly, including the ability to lift 8.1 tonnes at 68.7 metres; 9.5 tonnes at 66 metres; and 13 tonnes at almost 60 metres. Taxi configurations start from just 1 tonne of counterweight and go up to 30.9 tonnes within 16.5 tonne axle weights.

GMK5250XL-1

The GMK5250XL-1 has a 78.5 metre boom, making it the longest in its class, and it includes twin lock boom pinning. Power comes from a Mercedes Benz EUROMOT 5 engine, which drives the carrier and the superstructure. The single-engine design includes fuel-saver technology, which can lower costs by up to 30 per cent compared to previous Grove five-axle cranes.

“We’re extremely proud to deliver these latest cranes to Baldwins as the company continues to expand its operations thanks to the reliable and productive support of Grove mobile cranes,” said James Leishman, UK sales manager for mobile cranes at Manitowoc.

“Our five axle units, the GMK5120L and GMK5150XL, give customers the longest booms around as well as great taxi counterweight options, and compact footprints. Companies like Baldwins can take on bigger and better jobs with these cranes while still enjoying reliable and productive performance.”

Baldwins has been a Grove customer for decades and reports that it owns the largest number of five and six axle Grove cranes of any rental company in the UK.
