Wasel taking delivery of its new Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 wheeled mobile telescopic crane Wasel taking delivery of its new Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 wheeled mobile telescopic crane

Crane rental and transport company Wasel has taken delivery of a 700 tonne capacity wheeled mobile crane and placed an order for a 700 tonne crawler crane.

Both the new cranes are from Liebherr. Wasel took delivery of the LTM 1650-8.1 at the Liebherr factory in Ehingen, Germany. At the same time it also ordered an LR 1700-1.0 crawler crane, a new model announced earlier in 2021.

The LTM 1650-8.1 extends the capacity range of the Wasel fleet upwards. The company is run by brothers Thomas and Matthias Wasel. Thomas explained their choice of crane, “We decided to buy the LTM 1650-8.1 because our 500 tonne crane is now often reaching the limits of its capacity. We often need more lifting capacity, particularly for unloading machine components off ships at ports. The new crane also delivers some major benefits for erecting large construction cranes with luffing jibs.”

Matthias Wasel added, “We deliberately chose Liebherr’s new powerful eight-axle crane because it is relatively easy to handle for such a large crane. Being able to mount the complete rear outrigger box with just one hoist on site is a really good, practical solution.”

Fleet expansion is not confined to wheeled cranes. Commenting on the new LR 1700-1.0, which replaces the LR 1600/2 in the Liebherr range, Thomas Wasel said, “The significant increase in capacity compared to the LR 1600/2, whilst having similar dimensions, immediately appealed to us. It’s particularly useful for wind power jobs. In addition, the fact that we can use lots of components from our LR 1600/2, for example, the complete luffing jib, is ideal for us.”

A previously ordered 1,000 tonne capacity LR 11000 joins the fleet in the third quarter of 2021.

Both these new crawler cranes will be able to make use of the new modular M-Wagon ballast trailer Wasel is also getting. “Since we do not use a ballast trailer very often, this means we can save some significant costs. It also delivers a major benefit for our crawler cranes,” explained Matthias Wasel.
