DICA expands crane pad line with hybrid steel-composite option

DICA has introduced EcoMax, a new crane pad designed to provide a balance of strength, durability, and cost-efficiency. The pad combines steel and recycled composite materials, aiming to outperform traditional timber mats while offering a more affordable alternative to solid steel options.

DICA’s new EcoMax crane pad features a hybrid design with steel I-beams and molded composite timbers, plus a center target plate for easy outrigger float placement.

“EcoMax expands our crane pad line and fills a gap in the market,” said Kris Koberg, CEO, DICA. “It’s more durable and will last significantly longer than wood timber mats, and is a cost-effective alternative to steel crane mats and pads without sacrificing performance.”

Engineered to optimize load distribution, EcoMax integrates steel I-beams with molded composite timbers to create a rigid, unified structure. This design contrasts with conventional timber mats, which are typically held together with bolts and can flex under pressure.

The pad features a built-in center plate to help guide proper outrigger float placement, streamlining setup and improving safety for crane operators. It also includes dual rating options: a standard rated capacity when fully supported and a “Bridge Rating” for scenarios where only the ends are supported.

“Materials should be in full contact with the supporting surface. However, we understand this is not always possible,” added Koberg. “EcoMax pads have the strength and stiffness properties to support loads without full contact with supporting materials, which enables EcoMax pads to be used in this de-rated scenario.”

EcoMax includes practical elements such as built-in lifting lugs for easy handling with synthetic rope or chain slings, and a non-slip coating on the steel surfaces to improve jobsite safety. The current EcoMax model offers 24 square feet of surface area and supports up to 160,000 pounds (approximately 80 metric tons), making it suitable for cranes up to the 150-ton class.
