Big deals for Sarens Australia

Sarens Australia has secured AU$ 65 million (US$ 69 million) in crane and specialized transport contracts in the country's multi-billion dollar LNG and mining industry development.

The contracts will be over the next three years. International heavy lifting and transport specialist Sarens is headquartered in Wolvertem, Belgium.

"With Australia being the fourth biggest LNG exporter in the world and the mining sector being a significant primary industry, it is not surprising these high value investment projects need state of the art construction equipment like cranes and heavy transport machinery. We are all very pleased to see our ongoing efforts have resulted in these multiple contract awards. In the next six months Sarens Australia will enlarge its fleet with two 600 tonne crawler cranes, two 1,250 tonne crawler cranes, 72 axle lines of self propelled modular trailers [SPMT] and about sixty new telescopic cranes," said Gert Hendrickx, Sarens Australia country manager.

"The expansion of Sarens Australia started in 2007 as part of the global growth strategy of Sarens Group. In 2010 the Australian organisation was reinforced with the takeover of Perth Crane Hire on the west coast. The subsequent development of Sarens Australia is foreseen in 2013, when this branch will further be positioned as a true Australian company, well-established with over 100 employees, rather than as a small foreign start-up," said Wim Sarens, Sarens Group, CEO.

"The expansion of the QEHS department in Australia is now a priority. At Sarens we like working in Australia because of the extremely high safety standards, which are in line with the high safety demands of the Sarens Group itself," Sarens continued.

Sarens Australia signed a contract working on the Gorgon LNG project in Western Australia for CBI-Kentz. This AU$ 43 billion investment is the largest single resource natural gas project in Australian history, Sarens said. On the East Coast contracts have been signed with Bechtel for Gladstone LNG and three LNG projects on Curtis Island with an investment value of about AU$ 15 billion each. Other contracts have been established for heavy crane works and major load-out work on the HPX3 project in McKay on the east coast with McDow-GeoSea joint venture and BMA.
