Liebherr-Great Britain has supplied the UK’s first 50 tonne capacity LTC 1050-3.1 compact wheeled mobile telescopic crane to Middlesex-based Lee Lifting Services.

The new crane joins the 40 and 60 tonne capacity LTM 1040-2.1 and LTM 1060-3.1 mobile cranes also recently purchased from Liebherr.

The LTC 1050-3.1 can work as a 50 tonne all terrain crane, a compact city crane and, with its compact design, it is said to be ideal for operating in confined spaces.

Constructed around a compact all-wheel-steer chassis providing 6.1 metre turning circle, the LTC 1050-3.1 has a 36 m, five-section main boom. It has an additional 13 m double swing-away fly jib with 1.5 m integrated assembly jib, which Lee Lifting has taken with a set of sheaves and cross hook, giving a maximum lift of 25 tonnes and manual offsets of 20, 40 and 60 degrees.

One of the new crane's first jobs was to support three other Lee Lifting cranes at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London during preparations for the year Boat Show. The LTC 1050-3.1 was teamed with LTM 1055 and LTM 1060s to assist in the unloading of various sizes of boat entering the show arena.

Power is from a 354 horsepower, six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine mounted at the rear of the chassis to provide the ideal weight distribution.

A striking feature of the compact city crane design is the elevating operator cabin to give a better view. Mounted on a telescopic arm, the cabin can be moved towards the front of the crane when in road-going mode, providing the operator with the best forward and lateral view. When in lifting mode, the cab can be raised to give a maximum eye level of 7.8 m. The cab also tilts 20 degrees to the rear to allow the operator an unrestricted view of a suspended load.

Lifting operations are overseen by Liebherr’s LICCON system, which ensures that the crane stays within safe limits at all times.

All three of Lee Lifting Services’ Liebherr cranes have been supplied with VarioBase, which allows each crane support to be extended to any length individually for operation in constricted spaces.
