Sarens Supports Kalimantan’s Rise as a Logistics Powerhouse with Key Installation at Interport Balikpapan

Sarens is proud to support Indonesia’s ongoing infrastructure transformation by contributing to the Interport Balikpapan expansion project—an initiative set to position Kalimantan as a vital logistics hub for the country and the region.

Launched in 2020, the Interport Balikpapan Project is part of the Indonesian government’s broader programme to modernise its ports and strengthen national logistics capabilities. By boosting trade capacity and improving operational efficiency, the port’s expansion is expected to significantly stimulate economic growth and improve connectivity between Indonesia and global markets.

As part of this strategic development, Sarens was commissioned by PT. BMKU Tripatra Interport to install a 103-tonne deodoriser unit designed to improve air quality throughout the port and surrounding areas. This installation is a critical step toward ensuring compliance with local environmental standards while enhancing the overall functionality of the port.

To execute the lift, Sarens mobilised a CC2500 crawler crane from its fleet in Cilegon, Java Island, transporting it to the project site in Balikpapan by barge. The CC2500 is operating in tandem with an LR1250 crane supplied by PT. Interport, which is performing the tailing operations. Together, the two cranes are lifting the 103-tonne deodoriser to a height of 60 metres with a working radius of 22 metres.

A dedicated Sarens team of 10 professionals—including operators, riggers, and support staff—has been deployed to ensure the lift is performed with the highest safety and efficiency standards. An additional two safety personnel are present on site to oversee operations and maintain full compliance with project HSE protocols.

This project adds to Sarens’ growing portfolio in Indonesia and the wider region. Recent local operations include the expansion of Krakatau International Port and maintenance services at the Asahimas Chemical plant, both in Cilegon. Regionally, Sarens also completed the load-out of a 4,500-tonne LQUP jacket for PTSC M&C in Vietnam, destined for oil and gas extraction in the Bay of Bengal.
