Sarens Supports the Installation of Footbridge in Dunkirk

Sarens recently took part in the installation of the new Corderies pedestrian footbridge in Dunkirk. This structure replaces the former historic footbridge, originally built in 1898 and demolished last year. It once again connects the Route de Furnes to Coudekerque-Branche, restoring continuity for local residents.

For this project, the Sarens Dunkirk was commissioned by BC Metalnord to provide lifting support.

The loading of the footbridge took place during the day at GRPI APPLITECH on Avenue de la Gironde, while the lifting at its final location was carried out at night in order to minimise traffic disruption in this central urban area.

Two cranes were used:

• LTM1120-4.1 for daytime loading operations
• GMK6300 L-1 for the final lift, configured with 92.5 tonnes of counterweight and a 47.32-metre boom, chosen for its ability to safely perform a 25-tonne lift at 25 metres. The crane was fully set up and ready for the lifting operation by 10:00 p.m.

The site presented specific challenges:

• Compliance with a strict 5-metre clearance
• Prohibition of any rotation on the side opposite the lift due to the nearby high-voltage line

The main lift consisted of installing a section of the pedestrian footbridge measuring 25 metres long and 3 metres wide, with a weight of approximately 25 tonnes. Despite the confined environment and tight schedule, the operation went perfectly thanks to close coordination between the teams. With this successful urban lifting operation, Sarens continues to support its clients throughout France with safe, precise, and efficient solutions. Collaboration between all teams involved ensured a smooth operation, reflecting Sarens’ commitment to excellence in every project.
