Fleet of Terex rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG): Three similar cranes will be supplied to Basra Gateway Terminal in the port of Umm Qasr, Iraq and will enter commercial operation in the second quarter

A subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) in Iraq has ordered two ship to shore (STS) cranes and three rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from Terex Port Solutions (TPS).

TPS has supplied 24 RTG to three terminals operated by ICTSI in Madagascar, the Philippines and Brazil. The new cranes are destined for the Basra Gateway Terminal in the port of Umm Qasr. The cranes are due to be delivered in the second quarter of 2016.

Maurizio Altieri, general manager of the TPS facility in Xiamen, where all five cranes are being manufactured, said, “We are delighted to be part of the development and expansion of this major port by supplying our products, and to contribute to its competitiveness in this way.”

The two all-electric STS cranes will be used for loading and unloading containers on feeder vessels. They have a self-propelled trolley and a capacity of 41 tonnes under spreader. The STS cranes are designed for an outreach of 42 metres and offer a hoisting height of 32 m above the quayside and 18 m below, the manufacturer said.

The three RTGs will be used for managing the container stackyard. They have a capacity of 41 tonnes under spreader and can stack standard containers 1 over 5 with a hoisting height of 18.1 m. They have a span of 23.5 m, allowing them to cover six rows of containers and a lane for road or terminal trucks, the manufacturer added.
