Royal cargo successfully transported two 565 tonne ship unloaders to the Balingasag power plant in Misamis Oriental

Philippines-based logistics service provider Royal Cargo transported equipment for the completion of the 3 x 55 megawatt coal-fired (CF) Balingasag power generation plant in Misamis Oriental.

Two units of large ship unloaders from Zhangjiang, China, arrived at the Balingasag jetty on 13 February, each weighing 565 tonnes and with dimensions of 22.5 x 18.5 x 59.58 metres (24,800 cubic metres in volume).

Rodrigo de Roma, VP for projects and heavylift at Royal Cargo, said the sea transportation and handling were risky and very challenging since these major pieces of equipment are so vital in the completion of the Balingasag power plant. “We played an important role to safely unload and handle these gigantic loads at the installation rails.”

Royal Cargo, a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium, was tasked to provide and install the temporary structures and special stevedoring works that required cutting and welding of 9 millimetre thick steel shoring and bracing sections, onto the two units of cargo prior to unloading using a barge crane.

The Balingasag power plant will augment the supply of electricity in Cagayan de Oro and the northern Mindanao grid.
