Tadano launches 1,250 tonne capacity crawler crane

A 1,250 tonne capacity lattice boom crawler crane is joining the Tadano range when it appears in public for the first time at the Bauma trade show, from 7 to 13 April, in Munich, Germany.

A new 1,250 tonne capacity lattice boom crawler crane is joining the Tadano range when it will be shown in public for the first time, from 7 to 13 April, in Munich, Germany.

The hard-to-conceal CC 78.1250 giant crane was pictured in the March issue of International Cranes and Specialized Transport as part of the Bauma show guide. It was already assembled at the Munich trade show site.

Tadano describes the new crane as “the next generation of a 1,250 tonne capacity lattice boom crawler crane.” It replaces the CC 68.1250-1, boasting improved performance, safety, efficiency, and transportability, the company said.

Wind turbine erection and maintenance are target applications. Maximum hook height is 224.5 metres, including a 15 metre fixed jib. Capacity in this configuration is 140 tonnes.

Improved design and performance

Commenting on the new crane Andreas Hofmann, Tadano executive vice president of research and development, said, “The CC 78.1250-1 represents a significant step forward in Tadano’s crawler crane development,”

Customer feedback was crucial in the design of the new crane, Hofmann added.

Reliability and uptime were top priorities. To introduce an element of redundancy the new crane has two engines and it can be operated at reduced speed using just one engine, if required. Similarly, there is an option is to specify a dual Can Bus system. Another option is a 17 kW diesel-engined auxiliary power unit to run cab systems, HVAC, and lights to keep the crane up when the main engines are off.

Like other CC series crawler cranes this new one has the familiar IC-1 control system. Also as with other large CC models, a pedestal crane version is available, as a kit, can be added which replaces the crawlers with outriggers.
