Finland-based crane maker Konecranes has acquired Whiting Corporation’s industrial and nuclear crane building and servicing operations in the USA.

For more than 100 years privately held Whiting Corporation has built overhead travelling and other industrial cranes for applications that include steel mills, car manufacturing, hydro-electric and nuclear power plants. There are 130 employees at seven locations.

A bigger footprint

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, will broaden its footprint in the North American market, Konecranes said, giving access to an extensive installed base of Whiting cranes.

“We welcome this talented group of Whiting colleagues to Konecranes and look forward to driving together our new and exciting growth opportunities,” said Bernie D’Ambrosi, Konecranes senior vice president, Americas, for industrial service and equipment.

Konecranes Group sales in 2022 were €3.4 billion (US$ billion) and there are 16,500 employees in around 50 countries.
