3PL makes milestone move in Lithuania

An operation carried out in June by the 3P Logistics Industrial Projects team set a new record for the project forwarding and load handling specialist.

Handling a 103.5 tonne transformer was a heavy lift milestone set at the Port of Klaipeda in Lithuania. 3PL discharged the Siemens power transformer plus accessories from the delivery vessel at the port’s KKT Terminal.

“It was the heaviest single project cargo ever handled in the 20-year history of 3P Logistics Industrial Projects,” said Ilya Goncharov, head of 3PL Industrial Projects.

The transformer arrived from China by sea. Unloading was done using a 500 tonne capacity LHM type Liebherr mobile harbour crane. It was stage one of a delivery to a Vestas wind farm at Akmene in Lithuania.

“It’s been a long road. Our first touchpoint with the customer was in September 2023. That’s almost two years of planning, permits, road surveys, and co-ordination,” Goncharov said.
