Global Industries in the US will build another new heavy lift and pipe laying vessel designed by Dutch design company Ulstein Sea of Solutions.

Lifting capacity will be 1,200 tonnes and pipe-laying capacity will be to 3,000 m water depth and 60 inch diameter concrete coated pipe. The main crane will also have deep water lowering capability.

Global 1201 will be an evolution of the Global 1200, under construction at Keppel Singmarine, also designed by Ulstein Sea of Solutions. The design incorporates an AmClyde single post crane on the aft deck. The dynamically positioned vessel will enter service in April 2011. A transit speed up to 15 knots will allow rapid mobilisation around the world.

Bob Rietveldt, Ulstein Sea of Solutions managing director, said, “It feels good that a major offshore contractor like Global Industries puts full trust in our design and decided to go for another vessel so soon after the first one.”
