Hanchang takes delivery of new 2,500 tonne Liebherr crawler crane

South Korea’s Hanchang Heavy Equipment has taken delivery of a Liebherr LR 12500-1.0 crawler crane. The new addition will be working across a variety of markets, including offshore wind energy, energy infrastructure and industrial plant construction.

The LR 12500-1.0 uses two inline six-cylinder engines from Liebherr which deliver a total output of 800 kW (1,088 hp). These are housed in the rear of the crane, which has a width of 3.5 metres. The main hoists are also positioned to the rear of the machine.

Positioned in the product range between the LR 11350 and LR 13000, the LR 12500-1.0 lifts 2,500 tonnes. A key feature is its high-performance boom which uses a larger lattice to support heavier lifts.

The 10 metre long boom sections are designed for ease of transport. A special device is used to stabilise the lattice sections during assembly.

Multiple options

Multiple boom configuration options mean the crane cane adapted for different project requirements. Maximum boom length is 162 metres, comprising a main boom of 100 metres and a 108 metre luffing jib. This delivers a full working height of about 200 metres.

A vessel lifter configuration supports lifting and positioning of larger process plant components.

A special front section of the slewing platform allows full integration of the boom. Measuring 4.0 metres in width, this is transported on a flatbed trailer.

Ballast plates weighing in at 20 tonnes are designed to be the same size as a 20 foot shipping container, which helps with transport.

The LR 12500-1.0 is already on its first deployment, working on an offshore wind farm operated by SK Ocean Plant in South Korea. It will work on assembly of jacket substructures which form the foundations for offshore wind turbines.
