Crane manufacturer Hyva is getting another new owner. Private equity holding company Mutares, headquartered in Munich, Germany, has signed an agreement to acquire the Netherlands-headquartered crane manufacturer.

Following its recent sale to Jost, completed in February, truck mounted loader crane and hydraulics manufacturing group Hyva’s crane division will now become part of the Mutares Goods & Services segment.

Subject to the usual approvals the carve-out deal, for an “undisclosed but rather nominal” sum, according to Johannes Laumann, Mutares CIO, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Global business

Hyva’s crane business designs, manufactures, distributes and services the cranes around the world under the Hyva, Amco Veba, Flli Ferrari and Kennis brands. It generates around €100 million in revenue and has around 400 employees. Hyva group had a total of around 3,000 employees, plus factories and assembly plants in Italy, Brazil and China, when it last changed hands.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, Johannes Laumann said, “The crane business unit of Hyva is a very promising new platform for our Goods & Services segment with a globally recognised brand in truck-mounted cranes.

“The business presents a turnaround and carve-out opportunity due to recent financial underperformance and operational inefficiencies. With our proven expertise in carve-outs and restructuring, we aim to restore profitability and drive sustainable growth. With a hands-on approach and long-term investment strategy, we see the company as a valuable addition to the Mutares portfolio.”

It looks likely Hyva will be sold on again as in the company profile it says of Mutares it “…acquires companies in special situations which show significant operational improvement potential and are sold again after undergoing a repositioning and stabilisation process.”
