I-R handlers

New from Ingersoll–Rand is the VR–518 telescopic handler, a compact machine designed for the construction landscaping, rental and industrial handling industries. It has a rated lift capacity of 5,500 pounds and a maximum lift height of 18 feet 2 inches. Maximum forward reach is 10 feet 8 inches from the front tyres, and maximum vertical reach below ground level is 12 inches.

Power comes from a 106 hp Perkins 1004.4OT turbocharged engine, and the VR–518 has a hydrostatic drive with two driving modes–aggressive and smooth. The operator also has the choice of three steering modes–two–wheel, four–wheel or crab.

The two–piece boom offers a breakout force of 7,300 pounds and the standard attachment is a 1.25 cubic yard bucket. An hydraulic quick hitch allows attachments to be changed without the operator having to leave the cab.

Also available from I–R dealers are updates of two of its larger handlers. The VR–723 replaces the VR–623, which now boasts 10,500 pounds of breakout force thanks to a Z–bar linkage.

The VR–1056C, meanwhile, offers 56 feet of vertical lift and a maximum forward reach of 40 feet 5 inches. IR's patented rear axle stabilization system allows the truck to carry 6,000 pounds to the full 56 foot lift height with the stabilizers deployed, or 4,000 pounds without them. Improvements to the hydraulic system mean cycle times are faster and smoother, with more control for the operator.
