International heavy lift and transport specialist Mammoet has added a new hybrid all terrain crane to its fleet in the Netherlands.

It is a 60 tonne capacity crane from XCMG in China with both battery-electric and conventional diesel drive. The three-axle XCA60 EV has a 48 metre telescopic boom and a maximum hoisting height, with the addition of a 16 metre jib, of 63 metres.

Unlike some hybrid cranes which only run the crane upper electrically, the XCA60 EV can also be driven electrically on the road. Like a hybrid car its electronic control system distributes the drive according to the driving conditions. This allows it to achieve a fuel consumption improvement of more than 40 per cent, the manufacturer said.

XCMG said it will give a full eight hour shift of lifting work on the battery.

Gaining popularity

The XCA60 EV was first shown in Europe at the Bauma construction equipment trade show in October 2022. In 2023 Dutch crane rental house Wagenborg Nedlift tested the crane and subsequently, in early 2024, added the XCA60 EV to its rental fleet. Towards the end of 2024 Mammoet began trials with one.

In August 2025 the first unit of this model arrived in the UK, shipped to the Port of Bristol. In addition, XCMG said it had a partnership “currently in progress” with Belgium-headquartered international heavy lift and transport specialist Sarens.

In light of the above XCMG said it is scheduling more units for production which takes about three months following order confirmation. Shipping directly from the factory in China to Europe takes one to two months, making total time from order to delivery four or five months, the company said.
