KenzFigee to develop electric offshore crane

Premium Content

KenzFigee has signed a contract with Iv-Offshore and Energy to develop an electric hydraulic ram luffing offshore crane.

The heavy duty 3,000 type ram luffing crane is especially suited for offshore operations

The crane will be installed on a HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) offshore converter platform on a Sofia offshore wind farm, situated on Dogger Bank in the North Sea.

The heavy duty 3,000 type ram luffing crane is especially suited for harsh North Sea offshore operations, according to the company.  Its compact design and a limited number of moving parts make it an ideal low maintenance offshore crane, the manufacturer said.

It has a 40 metre box boom and will be used for personnel handling and platform lifts with safe working loads from 19 to 25 tonnes.

The ram luffing crane will be built, assembled and tested at the KenzFigee facility in Zaandam, Netherlands. At the start of 2022, it will be shipped to Batam Island in Indonesia where Sembcorp Marine will install it on the under-construction HVDC offshore converter platform.

Farthest from shore

The 1,400 megawatt wind farm, consisting of 100 wind turbines, will generate enough energy to power 1.2 million UK homes and will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world. Located 195 kilometres off the North East coast of the UK, it will also be one of the furthest from shore.
