Kito Crosby to supply offshore crane sheaves
20 February 2025
Kito Crosby, part of the Crosby group, has been awarded a framework agreement with a global OEM, to become the exclusive supplier of offshore crane sheaves ranging from Safe Working Load (SWL) 20 to 250 tonnes.
Crane sheaves are grooved wheels or pulleys used in a crane’s lifting system to guide and support the rope. They help reduce friction and mechanical stress, allowing the rope to move smoothly as it lifts or lowers a load.

Kito Crosby was selected as the preferred supplier due to its ability to optimise production efficiency, ensure reliable delivery, and provide cost-effective supply chain solutions, the company said.
“The success of this agreement is a direct result of our strategic production approach, which enhances delivery precision and cost efficiency. After more than a decade of collaboration, we have established a foundation of trust and reliability with this OEM,” said Roger Øvstetun, manager for Kito Crosby Engineered Solutions EMEA, who led the project together with Torgeir Hultstrand, senior project manager, Kito Crosby.
A key part in securing this agreement was Kito Crosby’s material technology and delivery of high-performance ductile cast iron crane sheaves, which were developed in collaboration with DNV and ELKEM. These sheaves offer enhanced strength, durability, and fatigue resistance, Kito said.
The casting process allows for greater geometric flexibility, which enables the material reinforcement in critical stress areas to enhance safety without adding unnecessary weight or cost.
This specific OEM agreement, which started in November 2024, will remain in effect through 2025, with the potential for extension into 2026 and beyond.
