Mammoet now uses Cometto MSPE as a new type and brand in their worldwide self-propelled modular trailer fleet.

The first project was carried out in the UK and involved 84 axle lines for moving jacket structures weighing between 1,850 and 2,300 tonnes.

After a detailed training session on the new SPMT, Mammoet operators executed the first mission while transporting a tripod foundation, a bulky item which had a height of 90 meters and weighed 2,035 tonnes.

The Mammoet crew transported the load on 84 axle lines Cometto MSPE with a payload capacity of 48 tonnes per axle line, and three power pack units with an output of 368 kilowatts each.

The self-propelled combination comes in an open compound with three MSPE trains. 28 axle lines in a side-by-side combination were positioned under each leg of the tripod. To master this challenging operation safely and efficiently, Mammoet relied on the specialized equipment by Cometto.

Offshore power

The tripod foundation is part of an offshore wind project that is called Seagreen OWF, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and SSE Renewables.

The windfarm, which will house 140 turbines, is located 27 kilometres off the coast of Angus in the North Sea. In the future, the wind farm will provide power to Scotland.

“We are really proud to supply the worldwide heavy hauling and lifting reference with our self-propelled vehicles”, said Cometto sales manager Joachim Kolb.

The duration of the project will be at least twelve months.
